Better Together

Hello, RIS Parents!  It's that delightful time of year again that we have the chance to support both the RIS and a local business.  Our "Better Together" event this month features a partnership with Cocoa Blue.  They have developed a wonderful gift bag that you can purchase and pick up either March 16th or March 17th at the store.  Please see this flyer for all of the ordering and pick-up information.  We really are "Better Together," and we're so lucky to have a community that has been willing to support the school and local businesses through this fundraising series of events.  Our last events have broken records at Public House 29 and at the Lighthouse...let's make this one big too!

Have a wonderful day, and thanks again for all of your support for the teachers, staff, students, and community.

Sincerely,

RIS PTO

4th Grade Gold Rush Information

When & where is the performance?

The performance will be held live in the RIS Gym at 2:00pm on Thursday, March 17th.  Visitors viewing the performance will be encouraged to park in the North lot (facing Buckhart Rd.).  There will be additional parking in front of the building, but all visitors will need to enter through the North (gym) doors to watch the performance.  Doors will open at 1:45pm.

Can I still see the performance if I can’t attend in person?

If you can’t attend the event in person, no worries!  The show will still be recorded, mixed, and posted on Canvas and the RIS PTO Facebook page later this Spring.

What is the performance about?

All fourth grade students are performing in this fun musical production.  The premise of the show is: It is March of 1849 and a group of pioneers land here in the territory that would eventually become the Village of Rochester, Illinois, to set up camp - before journeying onward to the start of the Oregon and California Trail in Independence, Missouri.

What should my child(ren) wear?

Fourth graders can dress like cowboys, ranchers, farmers, 1849 era merchants, or characters similar to Little House on the Prairie.  They could wear simple neutral colors (beige, gray, light blue, black, and/or white).

Can I take my child(ren) home early after the performance?

Sign-out sheets will be posted by homeroom in the gym lobby.  If you want to take your child home after the show, you’ll sign them out on the posted sheets when you arrive at the gym (before the show) to indicate that you will be taking them home early afterwards.  Teachers are having students pack up prior to the performance.  At the end of the performance, all students will return to class.  Teachers will be provided with the sign out sheets from the lobby, and those students will return with their things with their belongings to be checked out to you.  Parents picking up their students will remain in the gym until students return.  You’ll exit through the gym doors to leave out the North lot.  Buses will start arriving at 2:45pm-2:50pm, so we’re going to try to make this transition as quickly as possible.

Cake Roll Fundraiser

The CAKE ROLL fundraiser for 5th-12th grade band and choir students runs through March 27, 2022.  Participating students are earning money towards the upcoming or their future Rochester Music Department Disney Trip.  Each cake roll is $15 and checks should be made payable to Music Department Trip Fund.  Please see a music student to place an order.  Forms and money are due back on Monday, March 28 to their music teachers.  Student pickup of order is April 11 in the Rochester Fine Arts Auditorium after school until 6 p.m.  Thanks for your support!

Hazel Health

We want to make sure every student has the option to access our student health services from day one.  Be sure to take part in our Consent for Care Drive by signing the form at my.hazel.co/rochester3a.  If you have already completed the form, thank you!

Why sign up?

When students are not feeling well, they often miss more school when they can’t see a doctor.  We are making doctor visits available to all students through Hazel, so they can receive medical care and return to learning faster.  Wondering whether your child has allergies or a potential flu?  Your child says they have a headache that just won’t go away, and you’re not sure whether it’s serious?  Will you need to leave work to drop off medicine at school?

Hazel can help by providing HIPAA-compliant video doctor visits through your school nurse’s office or from home.  Hazel is a trusted resource for extended student health services, including:

  • Medical treatment: For stomach aches, headaches, sprained ankles, asthma concerns, and everything in between

  • Medication: Prescriptions written or over-the-counter provided at school when needed

  • Coordination: With family physician and school

Sign the form at this link now to be prepared for student health this school year: my.hazel.co/rochester3a

Parents who are unable to sign the form today can still sign up at any time during the school year.  We encourage you to do this early, so you are prepared for student health this year.
