NEW TODAY AT RHS

** Keeping students and staff safe is a priority for all of us. We have a crisis management and emergency preparedness plan for our school that is reviewed and updated regularly. Our plan includes procedures on how to respond to incidents such as fires and tornadoes. Students and staff regularly practice these drills every school year including hard lockdown drills. RHS will be conducting a hard lockdown drill with the local authorities on Thursday, October 13.  If you have any concerns, please contact the office at 217-498-9761, Ext. 3235. **

 

DOUBLE BUS ROUTES, 10-12-22

RHS riders on Busses #7 and #19 please wait in the HS cafeteria after school until your shuttle bus arrives to pick you up and take you home. PLEASE DIRECT ANY QUESTIONS REGARDING LATE BUSES TO THE BUS GARAGE. THEY CAN BE REACHED AT (217) 498-9834.

 

ATTENTION CLASS OF 2023!!

It's finally YOUR turn to tell us what you think about your classmates! Who would be most likely to get the teacher off topic? Who can paint a masterpiece with their eyes closed? Vote on the Senior Superlatives Form NOW! Deadline Friday, October 21, 2022!

 

JH ROCKET APPAREL FUNDRAISER

The Rochester Junior High is having their annual fundraiser.  They will be selling Rocket apparel until October 23, please click the attached link to order, JH Rocket Apparel Link.

 

SPANISH CLUB MEETING

There will be a Spanish Club Meeting on Thursday, October 13 from 3:15-3:45 p.m. in the HS Learning Commons.

 

PARENT TEACHER CONFERENCES - 10/12/22 & 11/2/22

Parent/Teacher Conference sign-up for today, October 12 is currently closed.  If you still need to sign up for a time to meet with a specific teacher for 10/12, you can call Sue Tucker at 217-498-9761, Ext. 3235 and she can assist you.  Parents should use their Skyward Family Access to schedule 15-minute virtual appointments with their student’s teachers that they would like to visit with through our video conferencing platform.  After scheduling your conference(s), parents will be sent a link by the teacher for each meeting via their email. Directions on how to schedule a conference can be found here. Sign up for the other date will reopen on 10/13. 

 

ROCKET RALLY - OCTOBER 26

Are you ready for the Rocket Rally on Oct 26!!  If you are, please come out wearing your pink in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, it’s going to be a Pink Out Wednesday! For this assembly we need your nominations on who’s been Respectful and Optimistic. Students can nominate a student or teacher who they feel has been respectful and optimistic (nominations open October 11 and close October 14), please use the link Ms. Wagner or Mrs. Hawkins emailed to you. Also, bring your spare change to the rally to add to your grade level bucket. So, we challenge YOU to try and collect money. We will donate this rallys total to a breast cancer charity.  Whichever grade comes up with the most money WINS! Let’s see who gets bragging rights!

ESSAY CONTEST

The Rochester VFW post is sponsoring the Voice of Democracy Audio Essay Contest.  There are scholarship prizes available at the post, district, state and national level.  Please see Mr. Fitzgerald for entry information, with audio essays due on October 31.  

 

ROCKET COLOR BLAST 5K JUNIOR PROM FUNDRAISER 

LATE REGISTRATION INFORMATION:

If you would like to still participate in the Rocket Color Blast 5k but missed the sign up you can still participate!  Register using the google form below and please bring $20 (exact change or check made out to RHS Junior Class) to the High School Student services drop box by the end of the day on Wednesday, October 19. Late registers should just wear their own white t-shirts.  Late Registration Form 

 

SENIOR COOKOUT

Seniors - We will be having a Senior Class Cookout on Friday, October 14 to celebrate the end of 1st Quarter!  Seniors will be able to pick up lunch during their regular lunch period. We hope to see everyone during lunch on Friday!

 

HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH FACT OF THE DAY

Winner of such accolades as the National Medal of Arts, American Book Award, and PEN/Nabokov Award, Sandra Cisneros is one of the most well renown hispanic authors especially for her novel  "The House on Mango Street."  Cisneros is a Chicago native and wrote about similar experiences of growing up Hispanic in Chicago in her novel.

Please complete this form if you would like your student to receive a Rochester Public Library Card--this is completely optional for students.  Please visit their website for more information. Please email Mrs. Sarah Littrell (slittrell@rochester3a.net) if you have questions.

LOW LUNCH BALANCE ALERTS

The low lunch balance alerts have been reactivated for all families.  You will get an alert when your lunch balance is below $5.00.  If you choose to shut off the alert, you will no longer get any school announcements.

 

DOCTORS NOTES

Please make sure that doctor’s notes are being brought to Mrs. Lessman in Student Services after the appointment.  The note will change that absence in Skyward from a parent excuse - AE to a doctor excused absence - AD.  Students are only allowed 6 AE absences in a school year. After 6 excused absences they will be counted as unexcused absences- UU.  Please contact Mrs. Lessman in Student Services if you have questions.

 

PARKING

Please make sure you are parking in the correct parking spot.  If you park in the wrong spot, it causes a chain reaction of students not being able to park in their assigned spot.  Also, if you are driving to school, you must have a parking sticker posted in your vehicle.  Please contact Mrs. Tucker in the Principal’s Office to purchase a sticker.

BOYS BASKETBALL ANNOUNCEMENT

Community open gyms will be held every Wednesday from 7:00-8:30 p.m. in the RAC.  If you have any questions, please contact Coach Gavin at tgavin@inb.com

 

SPORTS ANNOUNCEMENT

If your student plans to participate in one of our upcoming sports seasons, please visit RHS RSchool to register your athlete.  We will also need an updated physical on file.  Don’t forget to subscribe to “notify me” for your child’s sport, this allows you to get automatic notifications of any schedule changes. If you need to check your child’s physical date or have any questions about the registration process, please contact Kim Hauck at khauck@rochester3a.net.
