As families begin registering students for the upcoming school year, they may notice changes to some of the class and activity fees. These updated fees were approved by the Board of Education during its June 2025 regular meeting. The changes were submitted by administration after receiving recommendations from building principals and assistant principals who reviewed expenses from the previous school year.

Fee Reductions and Eliminations
As part of this year’s fee review, administrators were able to eliminate several student fees that are now covered by the general registration fee. For the 2025–26 school year, the following fees have been removed:
Grades 2–6 skating fee
RIS Art sketchbook fee
High School Elective P.E. transportation fee
These changes help ensure that all families—regardless of their child’s grade level—will see some form of financial relief when it comes to their student’s education at Rochester Schools.
Academic Fee Adjustments
Some academic course fees have been updated to reflect increased costs. Building administrators recommended a fee increase for the High School Band to help cover transportation expenses for competitions to off-campus events.
Adjustments were also made to fees for science labs, home economics, art, and AP courses due to rising supply and instructional material costs. For instance, the cost of dissection specimens has increased significantly, so much so that the previous fee structure for 2024–25 would no longer cover materials or allow all students to fully participate.
Meal Price Updates
Minor increases have also been made to meal prices. While food prices have risen due to inflation, district meal costs have remained flat in recent years. The new pricing helps offset those inflation-related increases and ensures continued quality in school meals.
Athletic Fee Changes
Families can purchase a $200 annual athletic pass, which grants entire families entry to all regular-season high school athletic events (excluding playoff games). This pass offers a cost-effective option for families who regularly attend events to support student-athletes.
Additionally, football season tickets saw a slight increase, and a new $3 admission fee has been introduced for students attending school events outside their school's grade level. For example, a junior high student attending a high school basketball game would pay $3 for admission.
