ABOUT MRS. PARKER

I am currently in my 12th year directing the bands at Rochester Intermediate School, and could not be happier to be starting a new school year with a large group of students joining and returning to the program! I am a Rochester High graduate myself, and have really enjoyed coming back to the district to teach. I began my musical career with piano lessons during 1st grade (although I had asked Santa for an electric guitar when I was 3, he brought me a keyboard instead) and studied privately through 12th grade. I began playing the alto saxophone in the 5th grade band, and from there taught myself guitar and many other instruments. Not only did I participate in all bands offered at Rochester, but I was also a member of the Concert, Madrigal, and Jazz choirs, and participated in track, cross country, basketball, and softball, as well as many community service organizations and theatrical productions. After High School, I attended the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign where I received a Bachelor's of Music Education degree. While at the University, I performed with all six concert band ensembles on various instruments, including a semester as the featured pianist for the Wind Symphony. As a member of the Marching Illini, I was privileged to perform at Wembley Arena in London, England, The Royal Shakespearean Theater in Stratford Upon Avon, England, as well as at the Nokia Sugar Bowl held in the Superdome in New Orleans. Other performance travels included trips to Purdue University, Penn State, and the Edward Jones Dome in St. Louis. During my four years as an Illini I was also a member of the University Chorus and the auditioned Chamber Chorus, a ticket manager for Starcourse, and a member of the Mu Phi Epsilon professional Music Fraternity.

After graduating, I was employed as Music Director for the Prairieview School District in Royal, Illinois for four years before accepting my current position in Rochester. In May of 2011, I completed a Master of the Arts in Teacher Leadership degree from the University of Illinois at Springfield.

Outside of school, I am a mom to two boys (Ben and Max) and a little girl (Addy) who keep me very busy! I love to travel, and enjoy relaxing when I can with some time on my paddle board, hiking, playing music, a trip to watch the Illini or Cubs play, or by just spending time with my friends and family.

I have always set very high goals for each ensemble I direct, and it is a joy to see students cultivate their musical talents throughout the school year. Feel free to contact me any time with questions concerning the program. I am happy to help with whatever I can and feel very lucky to have dedicated parents and students to work with in our district.
